Foundations Portfolio Review must be completed by all students who meet the following criteria:
- Incoming freshmen wanting to become Art majors
- Transfer students wanting to become Art majors
- Current ASU students wanting to change their major to Art
- Returning graduates pursuing another degree in Art
Application to the Department of Art as an art major requires submitting all completed forms and a portfolio of no more than ten (10) images that document your most successful artwork. Your portfolio may include any visual work you have produced in high school, private or recreational classes, at other universities, and/or works created without instruction. Only digital formats are accepted provided you follow the detailed portfolio preparation guidelines. Your portfolio should reflect the following:
- Skill in the creative manipulation of the elements and principles of art.
- Competent drawing skills.
- Heightened perceptual awareness in responding to the physical world.
- Skillful, creative, and expressive use of media.
- Creative thinking skills.
- Sensitive response to human issues.
- Use of original, appropriate, and relevant form, subject and content.
If you have passed Foundations Portfolio Review with artwork completed in ART Fundamentals courses, you may be eligible to receive Substitution Credit for one or more of the core Foundations classes required of all art majors. More information can be found in the Substitution Credit REVIEW FOrm.
