Program Requirements

Students majoring in Studio Art in the Department of Art are required to:

Program Notes

The BFA Studio Art Program of Study is a structured program. Photography is one of its seven areas of emphasis. Many of the courses are sequential and must follow specific four-year calendars.

Students are advised to take the Foundation classes their first year. They are also advised to submit work to the Portfolio review within the first year.

Elective Courses

Elective courses in Studio and Related Area will help bring depth and balance to the studio courses. These are:

Summer Courses

It is strongly suggested that students plan their course of study to include a summer session at Appalachian. These may include a study abroad experience, one of the intensive five week, summer sessions, or an internship experience

Advising

Students should seek formal advising from their advisor but are encouraged to contact any of the studio faculty with questions regarding a particular program or the creative field.

This chart plots a program that enables students to complete their degree requirements in eight semesters. Individual plans of study may vary. Courses listed in color represent a plan of study with 18 hours of emphasis. An emphasis requires 18-24 hours of study in one area.
