Photography mediates our experience of the modern world. As an art form it holds a unique place, encompassing not only aesthetics, but also cultural, political, historical, and personal issues. The Photography Program at Appalachian State is designed to educate our students to think of photography as integrally related to such content, as well as to provide them with the technical and formal skills they need in order to express their ideas in this medium. We teach a range of processes, from black and white photography to color to non-silver to digital, integrated within a BFA Studio program, which allows for a primary or secondary concentration in photography.

Facilities
The photography facilities include black and white darkrooms, an advanced pinhole/non-silver darkroom, a lighting studio and access to two digital (MAC platform) labs, scanners and an Epson 2200 archival printer.  Color is printed digitally.
