Smith Gallery

The gallery that teaches

The Smith Gallery is a vibrant contemporary art space, housed in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts. We present original and travelling exhibitions, feature work by faculty and students at the university, and commission daring new art in all of its forms.

As a teaching gallery, the Smith supports a wide range of curricula at the university and produces public programs that serve both the university and local communities. The gallery involves students in all aspects of its work and functions as a learning laboratory for honing curatorial, presentation and installation skills.

We are committed to cultural equity and sustainability in keeping with the university’s mission and to providing resources for critical engagement with contemporary issues.

The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 pm to 5 pm and during special events scheduled at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts, 731 Rivers Street, Boone, NC 28608.  Admission is free.
